As Brookline residents, we don’t need to tell you how great the community is. In 2015, we’re a formidable presence in the Boston area. In addition to enjoying our amazing restaurants, cultural offerings and bragging rights to our highly rated school system this February, take pride in the fact that an impressive number of world-renowned figures have called Brookline home at one time or another.
Comedian, late night host and former Saturday Night Live writer, Conan O’Brien, was born and raised in Brookline. His parents are Dr. Thomas O’Brien, esteemed epidemiologist and microbiology department head at Peter Brigham Hospital, and Ruth Reardon O’Brien, an attorney from the firm of Ropes and Gray. O’Brien attended Brookline High School before heading to Harvard University to major in American History. With such strong ties to the community, is it possible you’ve spotted the host of the self-titled Conan in Brookline this February?
Panera Bread co-founder, Ron Shaich, may have grown up inNew Jersey, but he’s maintained close ties to the Boston area for his entire adult life. Shaich came to Boston in 1976 with the purpose of attending Harvard Business School. Ron established and grew the Au Bon Pain bakery and cafe restaurant chain, which eventually became Panera Bread. He and wife Nancy moved to Brookline after Ron became CEO of Panera. The couple chose Brookline because it’s a great place to raise children, has a strong neighborhood feel and provides easy access to the city. Shaich’s interest in the Red Sox and Celtics provides one more reason to remain a Brookline resident in 2015.
Plenty of other notable performers, politicians, entrepreneurs and artists hail from, live in, or have at one time called Brookline, Massachusetts home. The following are just a few of the well-known natives and past or present residents of Brookline:
- Bobby Kennedy
- John F. Kennedy
- Barbara Walters
- Michael Dukakis
- Mike Wallace
- David Susskind
